Find Out About Forest School

What is Forest School?
Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Smith are trained forest leaders, and take children from Reception to Year 4 into the "forest school" each week. The natural environment provides a wealth of opportunity for children to expand their learning through multi-sensory exploration, experimentation and adult supervised play. The children at our school can experience this because our Forest School area provides a safe, outdoor classroom where they are encouraged to investigate and explore all aspects of the natural world, and to respect all living things. The activities that the children undertake link to the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum, are based on their own interests and play ideas and extend their classroom based learning. They also show the children (and any adults who help out!) what fun can be derived from the natural resources of a woodland environment.

Forest School has become an important part of the school's outdoor curriculum, with the reception class and years 1 and 2 currently participating. These children have been involved in a wide range of activities which have included games of 123 where are you?, treasure hunts, minibeast hunts, making their names from natural resources and learning to tie knots and make shelters.
