On Wednesday 7th October, children from the Nursery to Year 4 took part in a series of Asian dance workshops in the school hall. They were taught a variety of different dances, from traditional Indian folk dances to ones telling the story of Rama and Sita. At the end of the day, the whole school got dressed up in traditional Asian costumes before performing each of the dances for all to see. The children had a lovely day and were really inspired by the dance leaders who ran the day.

On Thursday 1st October, a team of Year 3 and 4 footballers played in several matches against local opposition Cherry Orchard First School and Holy Redeemer RC Primary School. All the children who played were excellent representatives of the school and there was a really large crowd who turned out to support them. The highlight of the evening was a stunning free kick scored by one of the Year 4 member sof the team. Well done to all the boys and girls who made the event so special.

TAG RUGBY
Children in Key Stage 2 are being taught by a coach from Worcester Warriors Rugby Club, and are working towards competing in a tag-rugby competition to be held in November.
TENNIS
Children in Key Stage 2 have received tennis training on the school playground from a coach from Pershore Tennis Centre. They will now be bused to the Tennis Centre every week to receive training using their facilitites and expertise.
Children in Key Stage 1 have also been given the opportunity to try their hand at tennis, and have also been offered free coaching sessions at Pershore Tennis Centre.
FOOTBALL
Both Key Stages 1 and 2 have upcoming football matches against local schools. Watch this space for news of these fixtures!

On Tuesday 31st March, all the children in Key Stage 2 were split into teams and competed in a whole afternoon's worth of netball matches. There were some fantastic performances, with lots of goals scored. All the children really enjoyed themselves and got a lot out of the afternoon.

On Thursday 26th March, Mr Perry and Mrs Bryant took two teams of Key Stage 2 children to Pershore Rugby Club to enter a competition playing tag-rugby against loads of teams from all over the Pershore and Evesham area. The children played really well within their teams and scored some terrific tries! The children were thoroughly exhausted and very muddy indeed at the end of the day! They now look forward to a new tag-rugby club which will start at the school in the first Summer term.

On Thursday 12th March, Abbey Park First School’s Key Stage 1 football team played not one, but two football matches on the school field. Cherry Orchard First School and Holy Redeemer RC Primary provided the opposition in what were the team’s first competitive games. The boys and girls in the team played magnificently, making some perfect passes, terrific tackles and super shots. Good fun was had all round, and all the children went home feeling tired but extremely happy! Look out Manchester United…here come Abbey Park First School!

On Friday 6th March, Mr Perry and Miss Roe took a group of children from Years 1 and 2 to Pershore High School to take part in a gymnastics festival for local schools. Young leaders from the High School taught the children how to perform a whole range of different gymnastic routines. The children learnt such a lot and all received certificates at the end.

Huff and Puff has been given a facelift this term, with a team of Year 2 and Year 4 play leaders organising a whole range of different activities for the children to play at break times and lunch times on the school playground. These activities range from playing netball to building things with giant Lego blocks! With so many things to do, it is impossible for the children ever to be bored on the playground!

Every Monday after school, Mr Perry and Mrs Smith run a netball club for children in Key Stage 2. On Monday 2nd March, the school netball team played a series of matches against teams from Cherry Orchard First School and Holy Redeemer RC Primary School. The children played fantastically as a team and managed to win three games and draw one. Lots of excellent goals were scored and all the children went home having really enjoyed themselves.

On Tuesday 20th January, children from Reception to Year 4 joined together for an afternoon of sporting challenges to help raise money for the NSPCC. The children had a number of three minute challenges to complete, including seeing how many skips they could do, how many bean bags they could throw on target and how far they could run! The afternoon was really good fun and lots of money was raised for a good cause.
